Digital Badges

A digital badge serves as an artifact, or proof, of an innovative credential, similar to how a diploma represents a degree. These verifiable and tamper-proof badges include metadata that describes the skills gained, criteria met, and additional insights related to the credential. Created using blockchain technology, some digital badges may have expiration dates, while others do not. This detailed information enables organizations to verify credibility and understand the true value of your qualifications and skills. Digital badges highlight your knowledge, skills, and competencies, providing value to both you and employers.

At the University of Cincinnati, digital badges are issued and tracked through Credly and Skills@UC. They are not recorded on transcripts. For more information about Credly’s digital badges, visit their website.

Digital badges are designed to be shared. You are encouraged to showcase your badges on resumes, email signatures, and social media profiles to highlight your achievements. The badge image will include the credential type, title of the course, and UC logo. The badge will link to the digital credential page that provides additional information.

Credly: Skills@UC's Digital Badge Provider

Skills@UC uses Credly as its badging provider. Credly by Pearson hosts the largest and most connected digital credential network. Their mission is to help the world speak a common language of verified knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The University of Cincinnati’s Credly account is maintained by the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies. Visit UC’s Credly badge page to see the most current listing of badges.

Accepting Your Digital Badge

When successfully finishing eligible courses and programs, you will be awarded a digital badge through Credly to recognize your learning. Skills@UC will issue the badge and you, as the learner, must accept it through Credly. Once the badge is issued, you will receive an email from Credly - University of Cincinnati.

This email will:

  • Congratulate you on earning the badge.
  • Display the earned badge.
  • Provide an “Accept your badge” button to claim the badge.
  • Offer tips on how to maximize the badge.

If the badge is not accepted, Credly will send reminder emails prompting you to claim your badge. These reminders will be sent one, four, and twelve days after the badge is issued, if it remains unclaimed.

For further assistance with badges, please refer to the information provided in the initial Credly email or contact skills@uc.edu.
