Accessing Canvas and Duo
Canvas
Canvas is the University of Cincinnati's learning management system, used in some Skills@UC courses. It serves as an online platform where learners can access course content, assignments, and resources. If a course or program requires the use of Canvas, this will be noted on the course profile. You can access Canvas at https://uc.instructure.com/
- New Learners: If you’re new to the University of Cincinnati and Skills@UC, you’ll need to create a UC account. Within seven days of registering, you’ll receive an email from skills@uc.edu with login information and instructions for setting up your account.
- Returning Learners (within 6 months): If you’ve taken a Skills@UC course within the past six months, your UC account remains active, and no further setup is required.
- Returning Learners (more than 6 months): If it’s been more than six months since your last course, you’ll need to reset your UC account password. Within seven days of registering, you’ll receive an email from skills@uc.edu with instructions for resetting your account.
- Current UC Students, Faculty, and Staff: If you are a current UC student, faculty member, or staff, you can use your existing UC credentials to access both Canvas and Skills@UC.
Canvas courses may not be available until the course or program start date. While you can log in to Canvas 48 hours after creating or updating your UC account, you may not see your courses on your dashboard until they are activated.
To learn more about using Canvas, visit Getting Started with Canvas. Additional instructions will be available in your Learner Portal after registration.
Duo Two-Factor Authentication
The University of Cincinnati requires Duo two-factor authentication to securely access the UC network, Canvas, and other online tools from personal devices. Duo adds an extra layer of protection by requiring both your password and a second verification step such as a push notification or passcode that is sent to your phone.
Detailed instructions for setting up Duo and using Canvas will be available in your Learner Portal after registration. To learn more about setting up Duo two-factor authentication, read this article.
